Celebrate 4th of July in Hingham: A Spectacle of Town Pride

Independence Day in Hingham is a favorite among residents, showcasing town pride and patriotism. The day is packed with events and festivities that bring the community together in celebration.

Event Schedule:

  • Road Race: July 4th at 7:00 AM
  • Parade: July 4th at 10:00 AM

Get ready for Hingham Recreation's Annual Fourth of July Road Race, now open for registration! Celebrating its 65th year, the race kicks off at 7:00 a.m. on July 4th at the Middle School, located at 1103 Main St. The 4.47-mile course takes runners down scenic Main Street, a historic route filled with local charm.

Runners will start in sections based on their pace: under 7 minutes per mile, 7-8 minutes per mile, and over 8 minutes per mile. There are three water stations along the route, and restrooms are available at the starting line. Bus transportation to the start line begins at 5:15 a.m. from the Station Street parking lot.

After the race, buses will take participants back to the Middle School from South Street near the CVS parking lot starting at 7:30 a.m. For everyone's safety, pets, strollers, baby joggers, skateboards, and bikes are not allowed.

The registration fee is $35 online at www.hinghamrec.com or at the Hingham Recreation office at Town Hall, 210 Central Street. Race day registration is $40 and starts at 5:30 a.m. at the Middle School.

2024 Parade Theme: "We Love Our Parade"

The parade begins at 10:00 AM near Hingham High School at the Middle Street/Pleasant Street intersection. From there, it heads north across Route 228, joining Main Street in Hingham Center, and following Main Street to Hingham Square. The parade then turns right onto North St. and concludes at Station St. around 11:15 AM.

Detour Information

From 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, Route 228 will be detoured:

  • Southbound Traffic: On East St., detour left onto Spring St., continue straight onto School St., turn right onto Pleasant St., then left onto Union St., right onto Free St., and left onto Main Street (Rt. 228).
  • Northbound Traffic: Turn right onto Free St., left onto Union St., right onto Pleasant St., left onto School St., Spring St., and right onto East St. (Rt. 228).

Pleasant St. will be reserved exclusively for parade personnel, with no through traffic or drop-offs permitted. Large floats will park on the southerly side of Pleasant Street, with overflow directed to Haley Field for staging.

Despite the weather, the Parade will proceed rain or shine. However, in the case of severe storms, the Hingham Police Department may cancel the event, with no rain date scheduled.
